The Open Road
Uncertain
Unchained
Unattached
Under no illusions
To old for delusions
Judge banged the gavel
Decree given
Single liven’
Sad day
Bad day
Glad day
Door closed, door open
But it all awaits
Clocks ticking
Change is a kicking
Time for something new
Blues left behind
News left behind
It all awaits
Freedom of a kind
Long time coming
New places
New faces
Where
And what
And who
Don’t know
When is now
This much is true
But new beginnings
Found in past mistakes
Too much in haste
Slow and steady
Calm and heal
But purpose
The kernel of it all
Without purpose
No matter makes
A life lived well
For others to tell
Then self is sold
And path must be bold
Not certain yet
But starting to see
Have faith
Have hope
Can feel the wind
It’s starting to get faster
Nerves a tingling
Now is the beginning
New stories to be told
And old ones always hold
Out there beyond
On the open road

I really enjoyed this. Thank you for sharing.
I enjoyed this a lot, John. I felt myself lingering in that contrast between something that had to end -- seemingly by an outer force -- and that feeling of freedom at the beginning of something new. The feeling of grief over a loss, softly intertwined with the liberating force of what newly awaits. Your poetry is very powerful and it's wonderful that I get to read it.
